Ok, my Audiosector amp kit is in the mail and I am closer to my first utterly custom design integrated amp. To mention a few features: Magic eye tubes for level indication, bantam patch for inputs/outputs, iPod connector with integrated power as well as switched mains power outlet on the front panel...
There will be two 35 steps attenuators, one for each channel. These are heavy duty Russian switches with extremely rugged design. I gather the lower volume range will make do with less expensive resistors than for the "sweet spot". I have even considered introducing a high shelf filter for the upper frequencies as the gain approaches maximum level, for a smoother listening experience and out of care for my tweeters. Has anyone else tried this? Also, I need to make this a series/shunt operator as my swithces are one pole only. Any tips and hints are greatly appreciated!

In my research I came across this article, and got very inspired! I can buy a set of 35 equal value resistors, and a shunt resistor. I gather the factor of 6.7:1 between the two resistors is a reasonable choice the first time I do this. However I can alter any value along the way by swapping resistors if I find it necessary at a later stage.
Progression! |
