ok - then look for something which is in range of 10K:10K ;

preferably with one middle tap at least on one side , where you will connect that mid tap to gnd , and other two ends to + and - legs of balanced preamp output

the secondary - connect one leg to gnd , other to hot - on amp side

or even better - 10K:10K

where both windings have two sections , so thats in fact 2K5+2K5:2K5+2K5

connect it on preamp side with primary ends to hots and joined inner taps to gnd

then secondary with both 2K5 connected in parallel

that way you'll have 3db loss

Been thinking about this a bit and why would I even need a center tap on the transformer? I can connect the shield on the balanced cable to preamp chassis ground and then tie the + and - to the transformer.

I am sure even the real good transformers are not exact between the 2 halves. So connecting the shield to center tap does not make sense to me. Can you explain?
