That was a very early generation of their system, where everybody played in the house system's forward field. About 1974 or so they went to a conventional house + floor kicks setup (or three).

Thanks Chris; I was just kidding because it was John Curl actually who told me about paired microphones.

...and...thanks to this thread I got a nice business idea. I don't know yet if it is still possible to organize in current economic situation, must probably I will fail again...

Is it a line source floor kick? I built a pair once when Leo Kottke was coming to what was "my" theater. Spent all day ringing 'em within an inch of their lives. They have a kinda strange sound but a *very* sharp horizontal focus.

Mr. Kottke (the most consumate gentleman and professional I ever met) took less than five minutes to do sound check ("Give me 3Db less 7 kiloHertz" - exact quote, and he was right!) and decided he didn't need the floor kicks. Oh, well.
He did a great, great show.

You got it right, Chris!
But Yamaha claims their kicks are the best in the world. Let's see what I can do... Probably nothing...

Looks like Leo Kottke has great experience. I still have to look at the spectrum monitor to see frequencies of oscillations, but I believe if to do that every day no monitors would be needed, and no oscillations.

Also, I respect people who don't need floor kicks. Most of folks who got used to dynamic microphones right under their noses and floor kicks firing back loudly don't understand that they are loosing studio quality of sound on a stage that is very rare today.

No. It was not midi, and it was not just a record without speakers. It was a record from a live concert, with pair of line arrays and a pair of large diaphragm condenser microphones that you saw on previous pictures.

It is always a good thing to learn from other's experience.

NO, in 1977 or later, they went away from the 'Wall of Sound' that took an extended family of 100 to maintain, and went to another sound system. In 1974 it was all WoS, 1975 too. I was there, sometimes, seeing it implemented.
