Full Range Speaker Photo Gallery

My non surround passive centre channel, open baffle to match my stereo pair.
Got the idea reading about some RCA Living Stereo 3 channel recordings, and figured, why not me?
No need to give up my stereo all in one system, and it works shockingly well with hard panned movie Foley effects.
Still no plans to go surround sound, but this is fun.

What a surprise! The speaker was designed to benefit from wall reflections and it works amazingly well. But decided to take outside to listen to it. I was expecting sound to be close to ordinary single speaker playing music. (In frontal direction of course)Because side reflections more or less are missing. But i was amazed how much more live they sound. I closed side drivers with thick blanket from my sofa to compare. Standing in front of the speaker difference is big.The sound stage is wide compared to closed side drivers. That was very unexpected for me. And of course all other directions are a lot better which is not a surprise. I can say the speaker fits small in room spaces and large open spaces as well😀

@Baffles: Here is my omnipolar fullrange loudspeaker. Its a styropor sphere with a second layer of sand inside for deadening the polystyrol resonances. On both opposite sides is a 15cm fullrange driver with a doped paper cone with aluminium foil (my speciality).

The sound is much more like stereo although it is a mono loudspeaker firing to the front and back. It has on each side an indirect firing tweeter reflecting on the ceiling. And one reflex port tuned to 50 Hertz. Nice sound effect because of the indirect sound from the second driver on the back.

The fullrange driver is a cheap one but with decent quality derived from car hifi and is linear from the bass to 12 khz in an infinite baffle. Here I used Behringer DEQ2496 to make it linear on axis.

As the sound propagation from a sphere generates a middle tone heavy sound which has to be corrected somehow.

Unusual design also:)

I think omnis are very interesting in sound.

I built this here based on Sonab speakers, I really like the sound. In effect its a horn loudspeaker in my eyes because it is close to two walls reinforcing the fullrange driver which you can clearly hear! Its not only its omnipolar design but also the proximity to the room boundaries what makes this speaker sounding like a beast.

Can you please provide more details of this or even just a sketch or photo? Thanks!
Not a photo, but this was just a 13 by 7.25 inch sealed column, about 3 feet tall with a driver on each of the long faces, and one of the blanks facing me.

I originally made it as a sort of less locateable summed centre channel, but it was quite good relying on sidewall reflections as a stereo player with a sub.
The 12P has always seemed a little bright for me, at least compared with a 12PW, so the sideways orientation may explain why I liked it so much.

It's just on an open baffle integrated into my tv stand. The power amp runs the left and right speakers. The right return connects to the centre negative, and the left positive connects to the centre positive. It's subtle, but for me worthwhile.
