The Pass Pub: The High-End Off Topic Thread

You know me, I'm completely wacky.
So I've bought it:
Quad Esl-57 hangfalpar - 187500 Ft - (meghosszabbitva: 2812826144) - Vatera.hu
It seems to be a real bargain, about 570€.
However, I left myself a loophole, I told the seller it needs a listening test before pay.
I need to drive about 400 Km back and forth.
I never listened ESLs, what do I need to pay attention to?
I would like to welcome any advices!

Hello Gyuri,

I love my ESLs (I have no QUADs - my ones are from AUDIOSTATIC). Especially how 'fast' they are. Depending on the music you are listening to an ESL can be something wonderful.
It is not the best loudspeaker concept to listen at very loud levels but dynamics
and voices are normally beautiful. Bass is often also a 'problem' with ESLs. I use mine with a subwoofer (crossover frequency at 80 Hz).

And ESLs need some room around the loudspeaker. Shouldn't stand too close to walls. Also experiment with the angle of the speakers to your listening point. My opinion.
Have fun ! :hphones:

I've bought them, and brought home.
Chaos level elevated to a much higher point.
These are Big!
They seems O.K. to me.
Nice Gyuri.
I have fond memories from the late 80s of a friends Quad els57s and they had the bronze colored grills as well.
The first HiFi-ish setup I ever heard, was also Quad els57s (in the late 60s ) with Quad tube electronics and a reel to reel tape source. A lot of tape hiss but good music.

You obviously know that feeling, when you change a chain in your listening equipments, and it improve listening experience so much, that you urged to listen all of your favorites and all of your music you have, continously.
You simply can't stop it.
Well, I'm in this miserable situation.
