Signalyst DSC1

Here are my recommendations for improving the сhinese board in order of importance:
1) LC filter for each register. TDK 0603 10uH + Kemet T520A107M006ATE070
2) Transformer - 2PCS / 10K:10K permalloy audio isolation transformer, balanced and unbalanced conversion audio isolator-in Transformers from Home Improvement on Aliexpress.com | Alibaba Group
3) Reduce resistors up to 7K5-4K7.
4) After installing LC filters, the requirement for a quality power supply is simplified. I see no point in using expensive LT3045 modules.

There are old photos on the modification: DSC1 DAC [1] - iXBT.com

Thank you for the info Pavel. I have some more questions:
Where are the 7k5 resistors on the board?
So I reduce the value from 7k5 to 4k7 ?
Can I add the 10k:10K transformers before I change the resistors?
Are the 10k transformers drop in replacements and how should they be wired for RCA output.
I am still a beginner really so all help is much appreciated.
Cheers,
Gordon

Hi Pavel. Thanks for your ongoing development work on this project; as an 'early adopter' of your V2.6 I know the guys now queueing up won't be disappointed.

Regarding the V2.5.2, would it be possible to add pads on the output section for the amorphous core Lundahl LL1684 transformers?

Regarding the possible group buy; have you considered having the boards commercially assembled? There are companies out there that will do small batches using your specified components.

Yes, it's already done.

I could not find a suitable one for the price. It turns out too expensive.

Hi Pavel,
I see people rushing with me too posts before you announce a list for orders. I do not know if your intention is to start counting the requests in this forum or later on to initiate a group buy.
In any case I am interested, please count me for one v2.5.2 (assembled if possible).

SingleEnded noise

Hello ppy.
I one of your previous posts you mentioned some sort of noise when the previous version of dac was used in single ended mode.
Is this still an issue of the current version?

Just to clarify : the 2.6.2 version is sort of a plug an play dac needing just the amanero and power?

Excellent news having the option of the LL1684 transformers Pavel - thank you.

I have a friend who has a reflow oven and lots of experience of assembling SMD PCBs so I'll probably get him to assemble a small batch of boards and if you are planning to make the Gerber files available I can order a solder paste mask to make it easier.

In the meantime, I'm just about to order some PCBs to try out isolation and a TP Cronus reclocker between the Amanero and my DSC2.

This sounds great to me!

You’re talking about the Hermes replacement PCBs you’re cooking, right?
If you get extra boards, let me know - I’d like to get one to play with.

There is no noise in current versions.
For v2.6.2 you need Amanero, power supply 6-9V and PCM to DSD converter.
The best converter I know is HQPlayer.

Pavel,

I thought I read somewhere (may be at CA)that the Amanero has to be flashed with a specific version of firmware when used with the DSC?
I understand that HQ Player is the most suitable converter (DSD being designed by Signalyst :D). However other softwares for PCM to DSD conversion e.g. FB2K, Daphile, and JRiver will also work with this board, right?

Thank you for answering my questions.

Regards,

In vain you are ironic. HQPlayer is really the best!
It is enough to compare once.
My rating of the program online converters known to me:
1. HQPayer (with a big lead ahead, true HI-End.)
2. Daphile (A good online sox transcoder, if you can start the system in UAC2 mode)
3. Asio Proxy (Resource-saving and free option for Windows)
99. Jriver (The most disgusting conversion of PCMtoDSD)

It is necessary set the Amanero module with the last firmware 1099c with DSD Native support.

If I recall correctly, I'm using version 2003 of the Amanero firmware with my DSC2.

Regarding software, I'm with Pavel; why would anyone be looking at this sort of DSD project and then compromise on the player software - just by a licence for HQ Player.
