The reason there is no m2 build guide is probably that there is no set up required (optocoupler bias), provided you used the right parts and wired the thing the proper way, and use a light bulb mains tester for first power up.

One issue that I've seen from time to time has to do with the nulling of
the DC offset at output. Depending on the Vgs of the output mosfets, you
may need to adjust R6/R7 from the nominal values on the schematics.
(For example, see here: M2Clone boards with 120mm UMS spacing - diyAudio )
One might considering having sockets for those positions and only
solder in the resistor when you're ok with the offset.

I also completely agree with the speaker thing, it has a large influence on amp preference. I have built a few Pass amps and for my preference I liked the Aleph J over the F5, because it sounds warmer, yet detailed. I liked the F6 over the Aleph J, the F6 seemed to me to be more dynamic, like the Aleph J on steroids. I have a M2 also, using it with fullrange drivers in BLH, nice tonality, warm and soft, easy to listen to. Just finished a DIY Sony VFET, it has it's own sound, dynamic, very detailed, giant soundstage. I recently swapped it into the M2 system, the M2 sounds warmer but less dynamic and veiled in comparison. The point is that you need to be careful with Pass amps, they are addictive, you can't just build one.

Thanks for this.

hahaha, this kind of post would confuse people more, but I agree about Pass amps. What I learned from Pass amps is, there is no amp that sounds 'better" than the other amps. I love most of my amps, and they all sound accurate and beautiful, albeit all have very distinct tone. Well, which is more transparent? Who cares! ;)

Boy, that's the truth...can't build just one.:D That said, while F6 does utilize a transformer, it is to me polar opposite of "Tube like" sound mimicry. I find M2 and Aleph J to be in a similar camp, somewhat "tubey" and find F6 more like F5 in character. This is across several different speaker systems which include Tekton Enzo (mid 90's efficiency), Altec A7 using 828G cab, 416 8C bass drivers, w/ 802 8G compression driver ( 100+ efficiency), Econowave using JBL 4507 Box, JBL 2235H bass driver, B & C DE 250 compression driver, (Mid-High 90's efficiency) Aria 5 MTM (low 90's efficiency), and 2 different Mini Monitor types, approx. .5 cu ft box or so, 85-87 efficiency). These characteristics more or less remain constant.

I dont really think Pass Amps "sound like tubes" frankly I think they sound better. They broke me of chasing exotic tubes, but now, I chase exotic Jfet outputs and inputs, oh well:eek:....While I might think M2 or Aleph J have characteristics similar to some tube characteristics, I would not say the same about F5 or F6.

They are all killer sound machines and I could live with any of them, but have my preferences of course.:deerman:

So this morning I jumped on Ebay while sipping my Coffee to looks for parts. I came across VISHAY 256 Power Miniaturized HQ CAPS FOR AUDIO from Turkey. 38 bucks shipped is not bad so I go to check out and they want $42usd for sales tax. LOL. I nearly dropped my coffee. What In God's name is going on over there?

Most tubes amps do not represent what is possible with tubes, but i will say that living with a pr of ACA monobloks has changed my attitude to getting my tube amps back into the system.

Understand completely. I was all tube all the time no sand amps for me. Even then, I could understand how SS could work extremely well for Preamp and phono amp purposes, but I believed in the tube. Building the F5, my first First Watt clone, really shook the foundations of my tubery. Suddenly, for around 500 bucks, I built an amp that allowed me to sell my beloved Mcintosh MC225. Not the perfect amp, but I really liked that one. Realizing what I could build with Jfets, I sold it. Another member over on AK also sold theirs upon completion of his F5.

Slowly but surely I have come full circle to Jfets. I have a couple tube pieces around, preamps, am MR 67 tuner, my DIY 6550/KT88 PP amp hooked up to Altec A7 in Basement...but all my main systems are DIY Pass now. Didnt see that one coming! You should try on A M2 or Aleph J!

Real Men are using toobz , no cages

:devilr:

Look Ma, no cages! First DIY from scratch project...Power supply has cage, but no tubes. (thought 600+ volt rails might need something to keep cat out of.

BFC cell is practically entity per se , so you can combine it with cells made for solving different part of spectra

though , there is no practical xover or EQ network in linked article , sole one you can see on page 5. is clearly marked as simulation model , so you can't use it for anything .......... else
