Bill,

Watch the right hand, pay no attention to the left one.

Resistance differences are well known. They are there. Are they responsible for the perceived difference? Probably not.

Can one measure differences between wires? Yes. But is it possible the wire with the lower resistance performs worse than one with a higher resistance? Yes, under certain conditions! Now the trick is to isolate those conditions.

But I just wanted to illustrate that as much as some would like it, there really are no absolute answers to opinions. Every so often the analysis is incomplete and we get surprised about something. (Brexit? And something happened in the US!)

My earlier tests were on 1,000 ohm samples. As the resistance changes there can be quite abrupt jumps in distortion. I suspect the process changes as the values shift.

The process doesnt change but the alloying composition of the resistive material certainly does. Add, doping or added metals also to get lower TempCo.

If you look at what is used to dope metal compositions to get lower TC as well as the metal composition itself, you find where the lowest distortion will be for a given value etc. etc.

As with capacitors, the lead interfacing (non smd) metals and method of attachment contributes a significant element to distortion, esp at higher Wattage/current/Temp. apps.

I need to find a shirt like that.

I was wondering Simon. from what I read, the corrosion from copper is non conductive.
the corrosion from silver is conductive.

Or maybe oxidation is a better term.

Hey George, did you find any pics of them missiles with tubes in them?

FWIW, my next project is going to be building on of the new triode amplifiers.
Maybe if someone has one that I can listen too before buying the kit and building it.

Nuetube or Nuetriode or something like that.

Close but no cigar, it is this:

I find it funny that all the amazing electronics in the missile will get incinerated the moment it is actually needed.

Not always incinerated enough. I remember a case in the 90s. where somewhere was bombed and they were filming the crater and a TI logo was clearly visible in the wreckage. Story goes that TI painted out all the executive parking spots for a year after that :)
