Salar, the voltage of AVCC module is listed as 3.6V in TPA site. So I doubt going 0.3V is the issue.
I wish there was a systematic way to trouble shoot this boards. Does anyone knows how to proceed?

Hi Kinku, where is this listed? The manuals say "slightly over 3.3V".
If Trident regulators and AVCC are the same thing,
voltages are 3.5V.

Buffalo II dac failure modes

Hi,
I have a Buffalo DAC II module that is constantly in mute LED on state.I was trying to figure out what all can go wrong but realized there is no dedicated thread listing failure modes. Since it has been few years since the board is out I am sure this might help many others too.
So my system configuration is below
DIYINHK USB to I2S module providing I2S input using 3-4cm Teflon cables to Buffalo. Power supply is 5.03VDC from SALAS REFLKTOR.
Buffalo positive and ground feeding my passive stepped attenuator of 10Kohm and then to power amp.
Can someone help me with a step by step trouble shooting?

Well not that much to check. Vin 5.00 to 5.25.

If fitted with tridens:
- one Trident @ 1.2V
- two Tridents each @3.3v
- AVCC @3.6v (has no influence on source lock)

Easy to check the board with spdif input. You can wire it directly. Just remember to flip the comparator switch.

Question, who says that it's the Buffalo that's failing? It could be the input board.

why the board is on lock state ( LED on) or it is the default indication? Will the mute LED be on even if say the ES9018 chip is damaged?
I checked the possibility of I2s board damage by connecting to a OPUS DAC . It is working fine.

Correct.

When were designing for the 9018, we were told that the analog sections of the chip could run up to around 3.8V, giving slightly higher output. We targeted the output at 3.6V to get some of this benefit without stressing the chip.

Can you show your I2S connections?

Do you have another source (I2S or S/PDIF) you can test with?

Have you set the S/PDIF switch to OFF?

I have chronous Hermes module that can be used. Also has SPDIF sources.
Positive ,SPDIF switch is off.
My current I2s source( DIYinHK) is working well with Buffalo ES9008.

Okay. It would be good to test the board with S/PDIF first to make sure it is working. S/PDIF is much simpler to configure.

assuming 2 wires(no coax) less than 3 inch long to spdif-in should work otherwise,there is no change. Still mute LED on. what should I do next?

Technically they are FJPF5200 (etc) in the isolated package (for ease of use). I still have some of these I can send you.

This is a long shot. Try running it without the firmware chip installed.

warning. If youre using the Volumite volume control, running it without firmware chip will bring the output to 100%.

Tried it.No change.The LED on AVCC board turned off when I did that. Still no sound.
