Hi, Vintage Axeman, Did you build it? Did you listen it?
Best Regards

Yes. Yes.
My first system used a lot of tiny magnets. Now I use the ring magnets.
All mounted in laser cut acrylic, and separated from the metal of the turntable by O-rings and thin insulating materials.
My latest version is mainly stainless steel, but again uses insulating materials as mentioned above.
Listening? My impression is of a slightly more defined, deeper and clearer bass, superior voice reproduction, and a beautiful 'sheen' to cymbals etc.

I've priced up the parts for my TEK-TONIK and am wondering whether anyone else would be interested in the kit which would cost around £120 or 150USD plus postage?

But does is for Linn?
I have many thorens, one roksan xerxes. Are a flexible kit for DD turntables?
I am interested, does is the system of the link?

Hi,
I designed this originally for the LP12.
My latest version is also for the Linn.
I have owned 2 Thorens, and Acoustic Research deck in the past, so I know they are similar, but to fit the TEK-TONIK Maglev system to any of these decks would require significant dimensional adjustments and testing.
So with apologies, I have to say 'Not at present'.
Best regards, David

Why is this that important? Which drawbacks would you see if the lower magnet would be mounted directly to a, let's say, steel chassis?

Best regards!

It is very important to avoid stray fields and magnetised steel in a turntable, particularly in the vicinity of a cartridge (which also of course contains magnetic material) or (if you use them) steel headshell nuts, grub screws or other parts!
The field from Neobdymium ring magnets is quite compact and limited.
Two of the most effective versions that have yet evolved from my work, involve either a solid nylon or solid stainless steel holder for each magnet, but in the case of the stainless steel version, it also has rubber and other insulating material parts.

The problem with two ring magnets is that the field is much larger than with a single ring and a second array of smaller discs. Larger again than two arrays of smaller discs, but you have to balance the array layout to avoid cogging with two disc arrays.

In the end I preferred a simple Teflon thrust pad, similar reduction in noise, zero extraneous field. However if your wedded to the Linn closed loop concept then load sharing maglev is the way forward.

I believe the Tranquility boys are looking at additional deck versions to compliment their lp12 offering.

Hi SQ225917.
I have seen your posts before and hold your knowledge in high esteem.
I have been experimenting over the past 9 years with both arrays of small magnets, ring magnets of different sizes, and combination arrangements.
I too have used Teflon thrust pads in both my LP12 and my Orbe...
By now, my arrangements have negligible field strength on the cartridge at the end of a disc.
I am confident that lower strength neodymium ring magnets, of a smaller size, are better than the larger Ferrite magnets used in some other turntables, and I have had excellent results so far from a number of arrangements including combination arrangements with small magnet arrays, based on advice on this forum back in 2008.
I agree that there are many options open in this field, and I continue to take your informed advice with respect and gratitude.
Best regards, David

I'm planning to build maglev for my TT but not sure how to block the magnetic fiield.
I saw many TT using magnet but I can not find how they block the magnetic field.
there is mu metal sheet on ebay, does this works ? never see anyone to do it.

can somebody tell me what material I can buy to block the magnetic field ?
or how to do it ?

this is my sketch of the spindle with magnetic rings,
will this works ???

diameter of the stainless steel bearing shaft is 20mm, 100mm length.
try to check ceramic shaft is way to expensive.

the yellow bushing is Bronze.

any adivce ? ... please ...
