Daphile - Audiophile Music Server & Player OS

That was precisely my point. If you need to oversample to drive your non-oversampling DAC, isn't that an indication that oversampling DACs are better?

Not necessary, the way different chips mix filtering and oversampling is different, so 'better' is relative, so unless you don't believe 'any' oversampling+filtering is the same, we end up with bad, good and better results.

At least for many old good pcm multibit chip, like pcm1704, removing the bottleneck of the oversampling filters is often the way to give them new life and let them sound at his best.

Even some oversampling DAC behave as 'non oversampling' if you provvide them with the highest sample rate they could handle.

Sure I'm not an expert, so I stop here and I call for more informed opinion on how this happen, but changing filters, noise shaping and other parameters do change the DAC sound.

The simplest way I know to archive this is feed a NOS DAC from a PC running resampler (or using a DSP like appliance). Again, you could have good or bad resampler, SOX is known as one of the best availlable, is free and is the one used in LMS, so I decided to use SOX in C-3PO plugin, but you have other choices.

Now, the matter is:

If you believe your DAC is the best in upsampling, please don't mind and ALWAYS let it upsample for you.

For all the other DAC that could behave as non oversampling, there is an option to be feed by upsampled stream directly from the pc using different algorithm (maybe replicating the one in your DAC?), so one could try and decide witch one is the preferred one and maybe find that 'non oversampling at all' is best.

Can you remind me again what the benefit is supposed to be? It will after all cause a 700 kb/s stream to turn into a 25 Mb/s stream without adding any actual information - is the extra network traffic and I/O load really justified?

Have you ever heard of a modern oversampling SDM DAC? Companies like ESS, AKM, TI, Cirrus etc make them. In fact that's the only kind of DAC's they make these days.

I have been attempting to feed the amanero i2s card in my DSP from dalphile, to date have only managed to get "digital noise" out. Dalphile recognises the amanero card, so I assuming I have the wrong settings. What settings do I need to tweek?

Try to check all "mixer controls" of "advanced / audio device" settings. Don't forget to save and restart your configs.

Your reply let me think again.. friend have same problem with HP T5740, Daphile works fine but only older versions.. I use same model few years ago, 32-bit version works perfectly then.. I think that problem begin with version from this year, try some newer than 14.10..

It's a little late for the answer, but I had the same problem with my t5740, Daphile 16.01 32 bits booted and installed ok, but had problems with shutdown, the server would shutdown but the PC would not turn off. When I wanted to upgrade from the Settings page of the web UI, the upgrade failed and reverted to 16.01. I also tried to reinstall with newer versions, but from 16.03 on no USB would start the installation.

With the help of Kimmo I tried several combinations, finally I upgraded the HP firmware to 1.04 and everything magically works, I could install the new version and shutdown works correctly. In order to upgrade the BIOS I had to download the BIOS upgrade package from HP, it's an exe archive that extracts to a directory, I then copied the files to a USB key. I could not get to install the BIOS from a Linux distro, so I had to download Windows XP Embedded from HP site, installed that, it didn't give me access to the USB with the upgrade files because it logs as a user with not many rights, you have to close session, enter with user Administrator password Administrator and finally you can go to the Control Panel move upwards until you can browse the USB key's unit and execute the upgrade file for Windows.

I hope I can help someone with the same problem, thanks to Kimmo who pointed me in the right direction, great support!

My friend have same problem with HP, thank you for solution..
I think there is simplier way to flash bios from usb, I did it few years ago on same computer, hope I will remember how..

The dalphile works well with the NAD DAC, so my friend is happy. We could not get it to work with the amanero i2s input for my Nadja DSP. It recognised the card, just did not seem to have any suitable settings. I am concluding the dalphile cannot do i2s, so I will be sticking with the SB touch, with triodes app for a while longer.

I am concluding the dalphile cannot do i2s.

Although i2s is used internally within a PC there are very few cards providing a pcie to i2s interface. One example is Pink Faun which provides an I2s PCIe card but it has a usb interface and unfortunately does not support DSD. The amanero usb to i2s card supports DSD but it is driven by a USB interface - so the interface is USB.

Hi folks, I actually use a daphile server-client configuration linked by mixed ethernet-wifi net ( server< ethernet>modem router <wifi>client). Server and modem router are in the living room and client is in the music room. I cannot bring a ethernet line from server to music room. All music is dsd128 upsampled both files stored in server HD and streaming from Qobuz. Sometimes there are brief interruptions i guess related to wifi overload. I wonder if it is possible to link directly server and client by an ethernet cable ( i suppose yes ) obviously in the music room , but at this point i need a wifi link for Qobuz streaming and management by iOS device. So ican server be ethernet connected with client and wifi connected with modem router?
Thanks in advance
Marco

Just wanted to check in on a few bugs that I've been experiencing to see if anybody else has seen them and if there is a possible fix.

- Cover artwork is so random: maybe 20% of the artwork showing for each album is correct.
- Airplay broken for ios10.
- If I have a .cue file for a multi disc album, it is not recognized ex (none of this album gets picked up by the library scan, works fine on all other applications):

Hello again

I'm playing around with Daphile installed on a USB-stick booted on my laptop, hardwired to my router.

Seems all good.

I'm just having problems linking Daphile to mysqueezebox, com (I've tried with two accounts, one really old and one new. The player is not showing up. And the app part disappears in Daphile when I login with my squeezebox username and password.

I've tried with the offical Dalphine recommended version and the latest beta version with the same results.

Any ideas?

Getting Spotify and Tidal to work is key to me. I've been following the Daphile facebook guide for Spotify.

Thanks

Accessing Server

Longshot, but I'm hoping someone here can help me out. I've got a Raspberry Pi3 running OMV as a NAS w/ SMB/CIFS, DLNA, and NFS services running. I've tried using each of those three options, but just can't get Daphile to connect to anything on my netbook. The netbook is on the network, the headless interface works fine, and I can play back stuff on the netbook's HD and on USB drives, but can't get it to recognize the network server. The server IS accessible by my two Roku boxes (via DLNA), by another Raspberry Pi3 running Runeaudio (via SMB/CIFS), and by a desktop running Ubuntu/Kodi. The path (or whatever it's called) that works on Kodi is "smb://OMVPI3/NewNetworkedMedia/" but that, or anything else I can possibly think of to try, doesn't work on Daphile. OMVPI3 is the name of the server, Pi3OMVDrive is the name of the attached USB HD attached to the server, NewNetworkedMedia is the "share," and all of my audio files are in a folder called networkedmedia/ . I've read the stuff on the Daphile site, including the Wiki on shares, but nothing I've tried has worked.

Any ideas? Any help is great appreciated. Thanks in advance!
