Amp Camp Amp - ACA

Flyingsolo, nice! I'm hopefully gonna start on my monoblocks soon (recent job change kept me from them). I'm curious as to what xlr jacks/plugs you're using and how your doing your umbilical? I'm going to build a dual linear power supply for mine in a separate enclosure to run booth blocks. Yeah, I know it doesn't need it, but to be honest I hate all the wall warts laying everywhere and taking up more outlets.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know if a common power supply can be built to use with multiple models of Pass amps? Would be nice to do that and be able to apply it to other amps with minor tweaking.

I'm using aviation plugs for DC input, it can be locked to avoid loose connect.

For other Pass amps, for class A amps, if the same voltage then yes, you can use one common PS...if not, then better not.

The vast majority of the Pass amps here on diyAudio are from his First Watt line
I believe all of them use this power supply:

You need to scroll down a ways. The ACA and a few of his FW amps use a single ended supply but this design can be quickly converted to that if needed. You'll need to search to find that info I believe the First Watt F2 uses the single ended configuration.

Edit: here it is I believe!:

perhaps a regulated source is welcome here.

Thiagomongi,
This is one of the freshest variants on the ACA that I have seen. Most people using ACA are driving with a 19v or 24v SMPS which are regulated and have typical 60mV to 100mV ripple. With a 35v supply - I assume you are using a traditional rail from one of your class AB trafo/cap bank PSU's - you are really pushing the power rating up. What is the operating voltage of this shunt regulated amp design now?
Thansk,
X

Beautiful layout btw.

Hello, I just purchase a pair of ACA boards from diyaudio store. I totally have no electronics knowledge due to my major is a mechanical student. I found this hobby quite interesting therefore I wish to start to build one and try it out. At school I have a minimal basic knowledge about electronics lesson only.

Now, I am having few problems to get the parts, hopefully someone could give me your best advise.

1. Most of the shops at here selling 0.25w resistors. Can I use this 0.25w resistor instead of 0.4w to build this amp?
2. If yes I could use 0.25w, For R10 and R12 the parts I could get is 330k and 68k, can I use this?
3. For R1, R2, R3 and R4, 3w resistors I could get are ceramic type, which is rectangular shape (white color). Can I use this too?

Hi Moppy,

It is better and safer to keep the resistors wattage at the values equal or exceeding the requirements.

You should have access to RS Components Singapore or Malaysia, they should be offering all the values that you need.

I used to shop with them.

You will need PSU boards to run ACA as well.

IT WORKS!

It Works!

Finally, after several failed attempts, I made some boards that worked, populated them, and got them making music. To refresh: this is a dual mono build with fan cooling, 32V supply rail, using IRFP150s for the output devices. All other components more or less identical to the stock ACA with a couple of exceptions. Should produce 10-12 watts into 8 ohms.

Will start on the chassis soon. But, like all my projects, this one is proceeding at a snail's pace :snail:. Build thread here: ACA Conept IIl.

Thanks for your reply but I can't find all the things I need in RS component.

For example they don't have R10 and R12 (332k ohms 0.4W and 68.1k ohms 0.4W)

Also Q4, LSK170, it seems can't get in RS component too.

Any idea where can I purchase online?
