I'm listening to The Carpenter's right now. She had an unbelievably wonderful voice. Almost angelic. I'm running a Jolida SJ 502A and a pair of Alpair 7 Frugalhorns. What a combination! It's a shame that back in the day it was far from cool to admit liking The Carpenters.

Is there anyone else who has a voice as sweet as hers and music as easy to listen to?

Thanks,
Mike

Jennifer Warnes - Famous Blue Raincoat - never tire of this classic...
Adele
Birdy - not very angelical, but huge Adele like voice for an English, 80 pound 15 year old - check out her version of Skinny Love. Definitely an "up and comer"....
Ingrid Michaelson - I really like her voice.
Yael Naim - very cool voice - even her songs in Yiddish are very pleasing. Although she has that somewhat annoying New Soul song that is now played everywhere on Apple commercials...I will throw myself over a cliff if I hear it one more time...

Best way I can think of getting exposure to more Carpenter-like singers is to make a station on Pandora and it will come up with many similar style singers - that's how I found the above... I would have laughed at the thought of listening to Yael before actually listening to her on Pandora...

Great idea! That's typically what I do, but I guess was too wrapped up in the music to think of this... ;)
Thanks,

mikje - being of that certain age, Karen & Richard were part of the soundtrack of my late teens and early 20s - sometimes hard to explain your eclectic collection to died in the wool heavy metal/hard rock fans. (Close to You and LZ 1&2? make up your mind, Chris :D )

While not a complete-ist, my personal favorite was "Passages" - demonstrative of their range - loved "Bwana, She no Home" and the DJ's intro by Tony Peluso to "Calling Occupants" .

Karen rather reminds me in some ways of the late Eva Cassidy - while sometimes a bit off the mark, either could sing just about anything, and make even the corniest mainstream pop sound fresh.

Mis-Education of Lauryn Hill - one of my fav CD that really surprised me - freakin' awesome voice - (To Zion Rocks with Carlos Santana on Classical Guitar - great bass riff too) - but not exactly same genre as Karen Carpenter.

Roberta Flack...maybe....
