Look guys, OF COURSE I don't have the extended hearing of my youth. My 'old' ears are more forgiving, to be sure, but I can still hear pretty well. Personally, I don't think that pure frequency response flatness is the main ingredient in hearing hi's. I think it is also RISETIME, and that does not seem to fall off as early as static tones.
I don't think that Dave can help me now, or he would have done it before the units left the factory. That's OK, I have another solution.

It's rise time, comparative levels and temporal differentials in the given ear and across the two, that gives spacial response capacities. Add in that our hearing is designed for hearing the human voice, which is centered to a round 500-1000hz, and you may begin to understand that strict high frequency capacity does not make a person a 'golden ear'.

Age, for the most part, does not affect these parameters, and we are still learning and adapting (literal new wiring and neural connections) as we age.

We're still good, in temporal terms, to well over a 200,000th of second in micro temporal differentials, at age 70, or whatnot.
 
After all this time, yes... analog still bests digital.

Again, the ear does not hear via engineering methodology or engineering signal weighting.

Adapt and weigh the engineering methodologies to how the ear works and the two will finally reflect one another, instead of all this off course squinting and guessing.

The math and the method can begin to reflect the reality if the math and method is properly oriented and focused.

The brain is the problem and our perception, the ear has been modelled and is used in quite a lot of fancy test equipment. It is perception that is the problem.

I personally find the extra resolution of digital better than analogue records and cant personally hear digitisis as some claim:)
 
In industrial apps, anything over 50 volts is a concern. Touching a voltage over that is considered "working hot".

Yeah, when working behind the rack on live shows, when the subs are pounding a good 2kw or more.. when tightening the binding posts on the sub wiring...always remember to not hold the the mini-maglite between your teeth. And wear gloves.

Feeling your heart and pectorals flapping to a reggae beat while you crush your teeth, is not the best feeling in the world. An interesting moment, to be sure, but not a favorite one.

if I over-react maybe I should just write it off as a little "too cheesy".

The Chinese sold "solar" calculators on ebay that had a piece of plastic that looked like a solar cell with a button cell hidden behind it (that lasted a few months).

I am not aware of one. How would it model the frequency dependent eddy dissipation and proximity effects in the vc/gap/iron/inductors/capacitors?

The problem being, of course, that no design is stable enough, nor long lived enough to provide being a long term 'standard'.

Perhaps one of the buttkicker type designs, as they can be/are sealed. So some 'average' may be obtained that is good enough to serve reliably across many examples.

Start off with those basic parts, then them modify the given buttkicker with long life components, components that are stable across a wide range of environmental concerns. Figure out a calibration regimen... and just maybe....

Since it is a very small device, and the cavity is small, then some sort of venting system may be allowed or employed to be dominant, and thus help provide some form of linearity across examples. Just a secondary potential for providing linearity, bedsides any careful component selection.

Then add to it a given standardized 'crossover', and we may finally have a standardized load example that is actually functional.

The Jag could never touch a Mercedes for handling and ride, and as far as quality they weren't even in the same league. Had a BMW not long ago and again not even a contest with the Mercedes, at least the higher models that is for sure. BMW's look nice and they fall apart, that is my experience with a 2006 325.

If you know how to navigate the repairs and maintenance of a BMW, they can be dirt cheap to run and own.


One will never get close to the quality and run price of a Toyota, Nissan or Honda, but none do.

But none does what a BMW does. If it's that 'je ne sais quoi' that BMW does..that one wants in car, then nothing but BMW does it. To me, it's a simple choice. A bit of research and self repair pain, and a rockin' good ride is the upshot.

The other thing, is that a friend was a emergency fire rescue crew in the most congested part of the queensway freeway in Ottawa, a town with two BMW dealerships and a high percentage of BMW's for that size population. He said that BMW was an excellent choice, as in 17-20 years of pulling and cutting people out of wrecked cars, he's never had a person in a BMW die on him. That this was such a notable point, that it always stuck with him. It ain't just simple accident ratings, it's how it keeps you alive in the real world.
 
Funny, I have put both a barometric air pressure and humidity sensors in my portable radio. It was more of an experiment in using the devices. I did not think that it would be used in evaluating the sound of the audio device.
So, now we need to place the listening room inside a Thermotron chamber = good one.

Humidity should be ~+40%, otherwise static build is an issue that will contribute, along with the air as a carrier itself being a differential issue.

Before I conduct any serious listing tests, I endeavor to get the humidity in the listening space to be above 40%. I try to average about 70-72deg F (20-21C) and 40-45% humidity.
 
Buttkicker is a motional feeback device for gamers, I suppose you could connect one to your head and feel a virtual mace crushing it.

Ken, have you lost it? What does this have to do with modeling speakers.

Taking a stab at coming up with a speaker model for real world back emf. Something that can be normed and realized across a (minimal) production line. I've never bothered to take a buttkicker apart and see now they are constructed.

Otherwise, someone would have to head in that direction, a small sealed device, possibly something optimized, and/or designed from scratch.
 
The problem was, the capacitance went up when it was suspended away from everything else.

But motor induced noise/'sonic blur', from wooden floors, goes down in level, generally speaking. Unless you are not talking about 'cable elevators', then..excuse the interruption.


Don't mind me guys, I'm just catching up on the last 50-60 pages, and apparently helping DF tilt at my rapidly spinning windmill.
