VSSA Through-Hole-PCB build thread

The next GB has started: it's The First One, an improved version of the VSSA.

LazyCat's endeavour, though he is the one who made the VSSA in the first place, is a little different than the efforts here with PMI's design and in the PeeCeeBee thread by Shaan. We are sticking close to the earlier VSSA design and as I understand it the 'First One' is an evolution of the earlier work and not quite the same.

My impression would be if BigE was asking on this thread he was looking for DIY through hole designs rather than a ready made Plug-n-Play module the 'First One' is to be. PMI has made boards available though I'm not sure when he might return.

Sounds interesting. However, that is a plug and play. Not really for those of us who like to assemble/build. I wonder if he is going to release the schematic so we can do a through hole build like this one.

Thanks, Terry

This I doubt, at this point I think it is a more commercialized project for LazyCat. There were changes from the VSSA 1.4 schematic incorporated on the first VSSA group buy that were not, to the best of my knowledge, ever disclosed. I haven't been motivated to even trace out what those changes were; I didn't get hot under the collar like some did when the changes were noticed. As for the new 'First One', I would think the details are likely to be held close as proprietary information. That's why the whole enchilada ended up being moved the commercial sector in the first place.

vgeorge,

PMI probably sent you parcel few months ago but any parcel sent by (any country's) postal service is a risk. PMI would be unable to tell you when you are going to receive it. But from my personal experience anything longer than one month is critical. After that time parcel is probably lost. The longest shipments I know of were surface parcels from US. Such parcel once uset to travel 3 1/2 months.

I paid some CDs from a US (California) company "CheapCDs" in 1999 and received parcel in 2006!

Hi VGeorge , you are definitely not alone in this. I have not received my boards either. I gather must be something tragically happened in his life that must have taken the priority. Lets be patient. I understand everyone anxiously want to complete his project. As you are aware PMI did a splendid job with the CM GB so i would expect no less.

I paid for 6 Capacitance multiplier PCBs and 6 VSSA kits back in November. At the time Pete implied I would be on the shipping list for the PCBs he was waiting for (he told me they'd arrive in two days). I have not received a thing.

I am UK based. If the goods have been shipped, I'd like to see evidence of it (tracking info and whatever else). Same should go for other people waiting for kits (especially oversees). While I sympathize with the issues PMI is facing - the fact that quite a few people paid money and have a very general update only is concerning. Hopefully we can get something sorted out soon for all involved.

This is the second GB which has run amok in the past few months. The other one has now been satisfactorily resolved.

PMI has clearly got some pressing problems; though he last was active on the DIYAudio forum about 12 days ago, a very short message of reassurance would be welcome.

I am sure that some other member would [preferably located near PMI] would take over the distribution of whatever parts are actually to hand.

What is patently clear is that this is not a rip-off, but a consequence of a serious and more urgent personal matter. I am sure we all hope that things resolve well for PMI and that this GB - one way or another - gets back on track.

I don't understand the angst from some over the fact that PMI's boards haven't been shipped. PMI has generously donated his time to supply us with these boards and I am very grateful for that. Its already known that he's going through a personal crisis and he's probably got far more pressing concerns than organising a shipment of boards to a bunch of people he hardly knows. I think we all need to remember that he doesn't profit from this - it is entirely voluntary and consumes a huge amount of his personal time.

I'm waiting too and would be delighted to receive the boards within the next 12 months. But also understand if PMI has lost interest in this entirely. I have no doubt that PMI will do the right thing and honour all board requests or return payment in due course.

I think everyone should be patient. If you are keen to build something (like I am) then perhaps look at one of the other projects to keep busy in the meantime.
