Vinyl sales at their highest for 12 years - TelegraphPlease read this article about vinyl resurrection.
I mainly seek repressings of my old worn or damages LPs, and these seem to be rare. However it is good to see smarter contemporary muso's releasing on LP as well as CD/digital. I have not bought any yet, not my taste.
But I wonder if its simply squeaky, trashy 'wall of sound' compression transferred to LP? Wouldn't that be a waste of carefully engineered audio electronics and speakers. Shudder.

I buy quite a lot of vinyl. Very few albums use the same mastering, the vinyl versions all tend to be much less compressed, 3-6db less compression is typical almost across the board. Those that do sound the same on cd and vinyl tend to sound great on cd anyway.
Of course I don't by anything 'pop' so 'the kids' could be listening to any old crap on vinyl.

What is the sonic advantage of vinyl if the original was recorded and mixed digitally then converted to analog?
I have asked this same question, no answer as yet.....

None for us....
LP's won't play in cars, so the marketing department let one mastering engineer go without his lobotomy. Most CD's are so **** compressed. Everything else too, people make recordings with cell phones and laptops with AGC (automatic gain control), and expect people to listen to them on U-tube.
I listened to the "All American Symphony" at 4 AM do the Shostakovitch 5th Symph. So compressed all the loud parts sounded like a car radio. This is in High Definition television format! No wonder KET only ran this turkey at 4AM on Tuesday morning.
If I ever post a recording on the internet, I will 1. Play the loudest part and make sure the red led doesn't come on the mixer, and no more than one yellow 2. Record at that level. 3. If a truck hitches to the trailer at the factory across the road, or a car drives by with a zoom tube playing: make a different recording. I bet I get at least 3 views the first month.

Sorry, what is the connect between vinyl and posting diy digital soundbites on Youtube?
I have a reasonable record collection, a td124/II, td125, Ariston RDII and a Technics sl110a all gathering dust.
It was hard at first but as my CD collection grew, I began listening to vinyl less and less. Personally I see no advantage in vinyl

I also have tube gear, not fired up for 30 years, they are all better than money in the bankComing from a guy with four turntables.

Will we be kicking ourselves for dumping our old analog tvs in the future?
I'm assuming or at least hoping that the vinyl masters are from higher sampling rate and possibly wider word width sources than CD's offer.
I never could accustom myself to the deficiencies of CD sound, although I was getting interested in SACD and DVDA before they went south.

Worth more if they are in good working condition.

Not for me. That last one I dropped off at the SA almost broke my back.
So very tempted to get into LPs again, but shocked to discover they retail at £20!
Yup.
