It seems to me after Merlin's reports on film caps and regs that in his system mostly ''rounder'' capacitors work better for him. I am suspecting his speakers and acoustics being the arbitrary decisive link. Was listening to double mono 1.2 full plastic caps regs just yesterday on the phono, and the tone is so clean, resolute and melodic in the same time. I wouldn't dare to recommend Ampohm paper in oil or Mylar in oil, under extinction and so huge, or Jupiter Wax, because such experiments are expensive, and without witnessing a system we can't really know more. I trust Merlin is experienced and knows his tastes so he decides his voicing best. By the way, he has gone a long road from his first frustrating attempts fast, and he makes now remote sensed regs without assistance, silent phono stage, tunes voicing, we must congratulate his dedication.

All film caps test was using headphones HD600 not the speakers, I know perfectly mine speakers sound, if I will use the phono RIAA only with the headphones surely Obbligato's would be mine first choice, but Wilson Cub is another history: sounds more directly & not forgiven any kind of harsness & tell us how is bad or good for the speakers, I know also that I have acoustic node problems between 150Hz-200Hz as usually everybody has, but with headphones not matter;).

N.B. every hour Obbligato's are sounding better:)

Thans for your kind words:eek:, surely warm & round oil caps souns well with the Wilson Cub, I remember perfectly when I used Audionote DAC's with paper in oil Jensen caps that where replaced for Auricaps but the problem with Audionote isn't the coupling output cap, the problem is the tube output & the low gain of non oversampling AD-1865-NK.

First of all thanks all of you about this topic!

I'd like to try build this riaa and I have couple of questions.

I use MM cartridge so what's the newest schematic for MM riaa and newest shunt psu?

I'm on page 211 and is found some schematics, to MM riaa page 182 and shunt page 25.

Is the r6 mod now on the shunt psu schematic?

I'm trying to understand what I have read, but I'm beginner on these..

Thanks!

Exactly like the reg in post #3655 above. Only 35V DC instead of 55V DC input, Q5 7-8mA IDSS 2SK170, R10=3.3k or 2k7. You start the trimmer at its lowest and turn until 25V Out. Q2 can also be a 2SK170 for just 25V reg. There is nothing to redraw.
