Congratulations, your snake-oil-purveyor-trap has been sprung...

A potion, huh? Haven't come across one of those since D&D (which has gone out of fashion a bit now we've all got domains and daemons of our own). Does it come in a vial? Or a phial perhaps? Things that work on a magical principle often come in exotically named containers; e.g love potions, sleeping potions. I'm quite getting into the idea of a potion, it's got pot-ential. That's as in voltage not as in bong.

Ever since I heard of them I thought 'THIS is a perfect application for Quantum Dots'.

w

got a few xformers here, an xmitter or two, some xtals, so it's happy xmas to everybody

Another hifi-legend based on some truth and a lot of rubbish. Some passive components really do need a long burn-in, like big "nullohmspuhlen" & tinfiol-caps. Cables might change more or less, depending on "construction".
I`m using really thick solid core as speakerwires, and the copper shure needs to be played rough for about one hour to open up, definitly wery audible.

Seems like every material has some static load that needs to be scared away, more or less

Played rough? Scare away "static loads"? What did you wear, a gimp mask? Threaten them with some Megadeath? Only play poorly recorded Appalachian Mountain banjo music for an hour?

ffs....

ITS YOUR EARS AND BRAIN THAT CHANGED!

:) Question... to all those that "believe" in burning in. Why do you always think the "sound" gets better. Why not worse ?

After a few months of burn-in my output tubes always sound worse. :D

It begs the general difference/preference question. The $10,000 cables "always" sound better than the $100 ones, no matter what makes them $10000.

Hmmm, and I prefer an unshielded twisted pair of solid silver hookup wires worth ~$40 to anything else. I must be the contrarian's contrarian.

lol - directional cables again... His instructions are electro-babble. The only reasonable and supportable bit is the instruction to avoid running cables near AC feeds etc.

They may be "completely normal" behavoiurs to the audiophile believers, but then so is self-flagelation to the religiophiles in the catholic church. Psychologists would have a field day.

I use Cardas speaker wire, myself. It works OK. Recently, over the last 2 years, I have been using Cardas solder. I like it. I rarely use Bruce Bisson's wire, as I find it too soft for my taste, but I have heard the difference. I tend to use VandenHul hookup wire, when I can't get quality silver wire. Of course, I only do audio for a living and have a reputation for quality. However, that doesn't mean that I know what I am talking about, but please understand, on a level playing field, many of you would have less experience, education, or understanding than I do, on this subject.

hiya john - I've no doubt there is a difference in BBs cables - he puts an LCR network of some sort on each cable. Still don't understand the need for a month of burn-in and interestingly, it is burn in that cannot be done at the factory so to speak. Now, I figure the only thing of any consequence NOT at the factory is the person listening - everything else can be emulated.

So, whats changing during this burn-in period? It sure as s++t isn't the cable...

only if its marketing stuff John - something that explains why any company with a vested interest in making its product as good as possible under their own control would leave the last bit of the process - burning in - to the vague and variable quality control of a customer?

Its illogical from a business sense without even going into a deep discussion on possible sub-atomic changes.

Lets face it - if there was a business advantage to supplying pre-burnt in components, it would be happening. Moreover, since doing so is relatively cheap, you would assume that if there was a market leader out there doing it, the others would quickly follow.

Unless they KNEW that the effect is a psycho-acoustic one, not an electro-acoustic one.

The whole diatribe on burning in on BBs site is not dissimilar to a catechism - building an expectation of dramatic lifechanging differences on the basis of following a process set out by the Master.

I could be wrong. Show me if I am. I am open to it. I just feel that Occam points to a more basic explanation.
