What can I say. It's the Golden Rule: those who have the gold make the rules. And in this case, Burson have the gold. They can spew any nonsense they like because as soon as you want to put them right the audiophools will fall over you en masse. It may not be possible to fool all of the people all of the time, but you can get darn close! :rolleyes:

Yep, the same story as with $5k cables, $100 audio caps, Shakti stones, Bybee devices, etc... etc... etc... An industry built on shams. To me, it's worse than spoon bending because it invokes "science" in support.

Since this is the Bybee thread foolish question has any one here besides John actually measured one?

One more boring car story. In high school I had my mother's hand me down Dodge Coronet 440. College didn't need one, bicycle was fine. After college decided to buy a car, went to the Porsche dealer with a friend to look at cars. The salesman all sat at their desks and would not talk to us, so we left. Mentioned tale at the time and comments ranged from buy a 'vette to Mercedes. As the Mercedes was the choice car of the major babes, next stop was the Mercedes dealer. Made the mistake of actually touching a car while the salesman sat reading the paper. Got thrown out for that terrible violation. Apparently when you are still young enough to have fun they won't sell you the car. (BTW audio has been good to me... I had earned the money)
 
OF COURSE, DA was known by engineers for sample and hold applications. In 1973, I attended an IEEE seminar where someone, from National Semi, I'm pretty sure, gave a talk on this subject. I naively asked him during questions and answers, what was wrong with using MICA caps in place of polycarbonate, polystyrene or Teflon? He just looked at me, like I was an idiot, and I sat down. You see, HE didn't have a ready explanation for me, because BOB PEASE didn't do his paper until 9 years later.
At the same time, I was taking some graduate classes at UCB in engineering, where I met a fellow, now retired, except as a consultant, who, within that year did his masters thesis on DA, and he sent me almost complete info on DA in 1974, including Dow's paper from the 1950's which I still have. This fellow was originally hoping to work with me, but ultimately went to work at ANALOG DEVICES, somewhere here in the SF Bay Area. He even designed OP Amps, I'm pretty sure. Want his phone #? Maybe you knew each other at some point. His name is Dennis Langley.
I must admit, I didn't see, even with the info staring me in the face, what relevance DA made to audio. Also, Walt Jung, remember him? Told me personally that he had never seen measurements like mine before I gave the IEEE paper, with him present, in 1978, in Tulsa.

A footnote: I realize that many here, just trying to get the jest of what I am trying to say, get tired of details, like 'Tulsa' 'IEEE' 'UCB' etc. It sounds like a lot of excessive verbage, but it is there to ALLOW follow-up, because some here have a tendency to not believe ANYTHING, unless it is backed up. For example: Does Jack Bybee really exist? Did he go to UCB? etc, etc. Jack Bybee allows this problem to develop, by being excessively secretive, as is his nature, being employed by 'them' for so many years. I am very open, to a fault, some say, but at least, I can back up the objective stuff.

PS - if anyone has a spare MkII Jaguar 3.4 they want to off-load, I've always been a sucker for those curves and the growl, and I'll forgive it the mechanical nightmare under the hood...

My 1st car was a MkI 3.4 liter. I had to work on so much on that car. Steering, brakes, electric fuel pump, generator, battery, upholstery, exhaust, etc. But that 3.4 liter engine? Never a lick of trouble. Strong as Ox! Never had to spend a dime on it. Which was good, 'cause all my money went to other parts of the car.
 
I once had an after-market electric fuel pump break down in my SAAB on the GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE. They towed me to safety, so I reconnected the mechanical fuel pump that had been sucking air for a year or so, and drove off. I upgraded to a bigger mechanical fuel pump for the SAAB. Interestingly, one important thing that broke on my 944 was the fuel pump. I wonder why they are so unreliable?
