hi guys, i'm running the dual mono power supplies on a B32, still in cardboard box. have been using the LCDPS and 2 x LCBPS, but just finished building up 2 x placid BP for the analogue sections (nice), now my terminal tweaker tendencies (not even boxed p yet ;P) have me thinking about an SSR01 by Sjöström Audio, was ordering some SSB01 unity gain buffers from him to tack on the I/V for driving headphones (switched with an otto for straight to active monitors or headphones; this mechanism is already installed) when I got to thinking about his regs. thinking I might even use LCDPS as prereg, then run the straight LCDPS left side to the toslink, otto and mux; leaving the right side to go through the SSR01 to feed the b32 dac section.

have any of you guys used his regulated supplies in bufallo32? they look mighty impressive, but I dont see that much talk about his stuff.
I have ordered some 20va/2 x 20v potted trannies from SUM R already to account for any voltage drop that any mods might incur.

also ordered the ackodac boards, so may grab a few more +/- PCBs from him for that. I know the PH stuff is well popular around here, but it would be easy to get carried away and spend a mint on it (I know me) plus I would rather build it myself (not knocking ya)

any feedback on his stuff would be great, i'm ordering one supply and 8 buffers for various projects regarless, but soemthing positive might push me over into grabbing 4 more PCBs for the regs

thanks in advance

Don't know about the PS but I can attest to the Ackodac boards being well designed & catering for everything (I've been talking to Acko & had an input into the layout). I believe they're about to be launched imminently.

cool, yeah ended up buying 5 reg boards and 8 buffers; yeah (I know its a sweet layout ( nice one if you had something to o with it, nice and tightly designed) been speaking with him today; cant wait and I have a feeling the buff will start to get a little less of my time with how much easier it is to make these mods and take the sabre to its fullest potential.

I have an idea about that - basically to allow output boards to be plugged in from the top into the tweakers board using standard (low impedance) pin connectors i.e a 3D design. I reckon this would give the shortest path to the output stage (probably shorter than the Buff with on-board o/p stage?) & would be stable with 8-10 pins on each side PLUS would make it modular - just plug in another IV stage or whatever as long as it has the correct standard socket :) I'll be floating this one with Acko & Owen :)

What do you think?

Agreed about the Sabre & it's full potential :)

Problem with spdif to Buffalo24

Hello !

I've got some problems , using Spdif input of the Buffalo24.
I've been using TPA PCM2707 since the beginning I have Buffalo24, as a interface to convert USB (from my netbook PC) to the Buffalo Spdif input : everything is right with this configuration.

Some days ago, I bought a Teralink USB to spdif /I2s converter
What I intend to do was just to swap TPA converter to Teralink converter.
The results I've got are bad, a cyclic noise appears in background, a kind of Kssstttglinggling, (something like a desert snake, funny ?) every 5s, during 1/2 s.
Have tested 2 differents PC Windows XP , drivers(DS, Asio4All), cables, player (Jriver, WMP) and finally swapped Buffalo to Cambridge Dacmagic3, the noise has gone !!!

Does anyone with the same configuration ?

Thanks for everyone for any advice
R.C.

Impedance is not going to be as much of an issue with pin connectors as parasitic capacitance and inductance.

That said, we are actually going back to something similar to the original Buffalo for the next go around to allow more tweaking of the output stages (by popular demand).

Hey Brian, your "Tweakers" board was first mentioned by TP back in Feb 2009 - your announcing something again now?

Thanks for the notes of caution on pin connectors - it's constructive!

Between high parts and mfg cost and time spent supporting users, we just could not get it together to have two versions at the same time. It's a huge risk buying all the parts up front, let alone manufacturing, a lot of these as a hobby.

The new Buffalo will be a combination Tweakers and non-Tweakers board in one. It will work "out of the box" for those who just want a high-performance dac, and offer lots of tweaking options for those who want it.

No tone just asking a question. You guys always post cautionary notes without any constructive suggestion & usually follow it up with how the Buffalo is either doing it better or about to do something similar but better.

So, as it's a thread that I started about tweaking the buffalo but has since become more like a Sabre implementation thread do you have anything constructive to add? You guys have a lot of experience with implementing Sabre DACs but I haven't heard much constructive?

WIth an attitude problem as big as yours, are you really surprised?

Jeez
