Ahhhh I'm a fanatical analogue purist.

But I don't want to start that argument all over again so let's that dog lie:)

Hooowever I'm amiable to proper music servers, provided they're using enormous FLAC's and running through high quality DAC's. Seems like that might be your approach:)

I've got a small amount of media running on Yellowdog Linux from my PS3. Still need a good DAC tho.

Unfortunately I grew up in the post LP era. But started buying LP's a few years ago. (Not entirely true...because my dad had a lot of LP's...some of which I have now...I ditched the James Last and Mantovani LP's) :D

Hope to get my BIX up and running next year after I've moved to my brother's place.

And if I was a millionaire or not so broke from all my spending. I would have gotten into open real ...and would have subscribed to the tape project thingie. http://www.tapeproject.com/

At home, most of the source is satellite or my computer. CD's if I've been too lazy to rip them to computer.

I just installed a bigger HDD in my laptop (hey Dave, new wireless drivers too... it might like your router now :) ), so now there will be no issues with sources when roaming :D

Cheers!

The poll question is somewhat ambiguous: almost all of my source material exists on vinyl (definitely greater than 25:1 ratio). and normally much of my listening is to vinyl. But whan I'm on the go I now listen to apple lossless on the iphone, copied from my CDs (>99%), or MP3s from iTunes (<1% - if iTunes could be downloaded in lossless, they might get more business from me).

So when I answered, I checked "vinyl" - but what I'm primarily listening to at any given time depends on what's happening in my life.

Regards.

Even though I am the only R2R addict apparently, I actually have more than equivalent #s of CD's (2k) LP's (2.2k) and only 3C of tapes. Yup, I am a hoarder and I just don't care WHO has to deal with it, when I waltz off to the great tube counter in the sky, or whatever other dismal event my life has prepared me for.

Can't for the life of me see how we are going to get this one down into the SVT and SMUG cellar, but I think we should try....

down into the SVT

It was SVF.

I only listen to CD’s (home / car). I will never put an ugly cumbersome PC in my living room and I really can’t understand the audiophile love affair with crappy vinyl with all that “high fidelity” popping, crackling, noise and wow and flutter.
A lot of my old school jazz on CD suffers from similar, due to the primitive valve and analogue recording equipment of the past. The 2000 remaster of Kind Of Blue is a case in point. Especially the alternative take of Flamenco Sketches. One of my favourite albums, but I just can’t turn up the volume on this one too far if I’m in the same room as the noise drives me nuts.

Maybe your turntable was a factor?
